What Happened To MansionBet? Site Closed 31st March 2022

mansiobet closing sign on siteMansionBet is closing to the UK on the 31st March 2022 with the site remaining open for withdrawals up to 28th April.  The company will honour any ante-post bets up to 28th April 2023, bets placed further in advance will have their stakes returned.

The Mansion Group is solvent with Mansion Casino and other brands continuing to operate in the UK and other markets, so any money you have with them is safe.

After the 28th April you will need to contact their customer support to request any further withdrawals.

The decision to pull their flagship sportsbook out of the market follows a similar decision by Novibet in February and reflects a general trend of smaller betting companies distancing themselves from the UK due to the:

“UK regulatory environment, non-propriety platform constraints and market conditions”.

New legislation is due in the UK in 2022 that will replace or reform the 2005 Gambling Act.  This will include more stringent rules for companies around responsible gambling, affordability checks, VIP schemes, online stake limits, deposit and loss limits, advertising restrictions and more.

Many smaller companies now feel the added costs and reduced revenues expected as a result of this no longer make the UK gambling market tenable.  MansionBet is the latest in a long line of small to mid-sized sites that have embarked on an exodus from the UK.

Why Are MansionBet Pulling Out Of The UK?

brexit divideMansionBet leaving the UK is perhaps the biggest surprise of all brands that have left the market in the last couple of years.  The brand is much bigger than many of the other smaller brands that have left and they put a huge amount of effort into the UK over the past few years.

This includes sponsorship of top level football, e.g. Tottenham Hotspur, a ton of UK horse racing along with other sports.  Mansionbet were one of the best known brands outside of the old traditional high street names.

As with the recent exit of Novibet it is all about money ultimately.  Novibet left the market despite having 100’s thousands of customers in order to focus on the US and Canadian market, which is growing exponentially at the same time that the UK market has stagnated and looks like it will contract when new rules come in.

Mansion’s intentions are to expand, particularly in Canada:

“Will focus on its casino brands and continue to operate in the UK, while expanding to other markets such as Spain, where Mansion is operating with MansionCasino, and Ontario where Mansion has applied for a license”

It is important to note that this applies specifically to the sportsbook brand MansionBet, Mansion Casino and other owned casino brands will continue in the UK.

A big issue that Mansionbet have and not Mansion Casino is that the sportsbook is actually run by a third-party provider, SB Tech.  This seems to be creating issues with new responsible gambling rules as Mansion does not actually own the interface or set the odds for the markets they provide.  This disconnect looks like it is becoming an issue for many white labels and brands that run using third-party services.

What Happens To Your Money?

britain flag and british moneyAs mentioned at the start the Mansion site will remain open until the end of the month after which time they will stop accepting deposits and bets.  The site will then remain open for a further 4 weeks for customers to login and request a withdrawal.  After this time you can contact customer support and request a withdrawal, although this will obviously take longer than a request through the site.

If you have any bets that settle after 28th April 2022 these will be honoured up to 28th April 2023.  If you then have winnings from those bets you will have to contact customer support to request a withdrawal.  Any bet placed further into the future will not be honoured and the stakes should be returned to you.

Is The UK Becoming Toxic?

novibet closed to ukNew incoming laws are ultimately designed to protect players from harm but an unfortunate consequence of this is it pushes up the costs for operators and at the same time reduces their potential future revenues.  The UK has had legal gambling since the 1960’s and is one of the biggest gambling nations, per head, on the planet but at the same time it is also one of the most saturated.

It is difficult to gain a footing in the UK and compete with the old high street names and this is the reason many companies shut up shop early.  Strangely, though, this isn’t the case with MansionBet who seem to have done all the hard work in becoming a recognised brand only to throw the towel in now that they have made it.  The potential revenues they will earn in other markets like Canada clearly outweigh the gains they have achieved in the UK.

The other issue is at the same time the old high street names like Coral, Ladbrokes, William Hill and Paddy Power along with established online brands like Betfair and Sky Bet have all become part of multi-billion betting super groups like Entain (Ladbrokes/Coral/Gala owner) and Flutter (Betfair/Paddy Power/ Sky Bet).  The power of these groups is now huge and they are monopolising the market as they have the resources to be able to meet new laws and still turn a handsome profit.  The combined effect of new legislation and massive super groups is in driving competition down in the industry and causing smaller niche brands to exit.  None of this is good for the customer in the long run.
