Mr Green - Closed

Mr Green took the decision to close its sportsbook in the UK on 8th September 2022, although the casino side of the site continues to operate as normal.

Part of the William Hill group the move follows the completion of the takeover of William Hill’s European assets by 888.  The move is strategic and follows a review of “William Hill’s brand priorities in the UK”.

The move was always planned to happen in 2022 although the group brought forward the closure of the Mr Green sportsbook in advance of new rules on Remote Customer Interaction due to come in on 12th September, 4 days after the closure.

For alternative new sites or established betting sites see our other pages.

Mr Green has been around for a good number of years now since they were founded back in 2007. They have developed a reputation as a very different type of betting and gaming company with a focus on elegance, style, and seamless functionality.

Branded as the gentleman of gaming and betting, the face of the brand, Mr Green, is a fictitious enigmatic benefactor who’s principle values are civility, respect, honour, and personal responsibility. This comes across in the company’s attitude to responsible gambling and fairness – they are very open and communicative with their customers.

The company, who have been UK licensed since 2015, are one of the most recognised sites of the last decade (20 industry awards in their first 8 years) and with a very large and loyal customer base you can’t argue they don’t have what users want.   This is born out in everything the brand does; from the user-friendly interface to features such as the bet builder and the promotions on offer. Mr Green is an online betting site that believes actions speak louder than words, and they are making all of the right moves.

Quality and Sophistication

Mr Green MascotSomething that is immediately apparent at this site is that everything has been designed and executed to perfection. This not only goes for the quality of the betting products on offer but for the website design as well.

Plush green dominates as the brands trademark colour, and the site itself moves and adapts with all the grace of its well to do mascot. It’s intelligent too, and multi-layered, offering different options depending on where you are on the site but always allowing multiple directions of travel so you never get stuck hitting ‘back’. It’s a seriously slick operation over at Mr Green and players/bettors who want nothing but the best from their time wagering will love this site.

A lot of online casinos and sportsbooks are fairly basic in design; they work fine and promote good games and plenty of sporting lines to bet on, but the experience has no depth. Mr Green has created real atmosphere at their site, it’s more than a betting experience and something like a world of its own, and this extends to the mobile site/app too.

Mr Green offer one of the most complete gambling packages I have ever seen. There is much more to take advantage of than usual including:

  • Extra Info – Game rules, how to guides, game recommendations, useful breakdowns of each section of the site that will be a Godsend for newbies. They have gone out of their way to help their customers settle in and have seemingly thought of everything.
  • Blog – This is available for sports bettors and for casino players and offers interesting articles, industry news such as new games etc, and also tips on where to place your bet.
  • Exclusive Games – Yep, as well as a great library of well known games from top providers, Mr Green hosts games that cannot be played anywhere else.
  • Reel Thrills – These are essentially slot tournaments or races, but they have taken it to a whole new level with competitions lasting as little as 15 minutes, new thrills starting all the time, and absolutely loads of free spins to be won on each one.
  • For Me – You know we said the site was slick? It’s so intelligent it can track the way you play and create a whole section of the site tailored to you.
  • Updates – This is so minor but I love it; in the few seconds it takes for a new page to load, Mr Green flashes up the latest score from random in-play events. They take every single opportunity to enhance the customer experience.
  • Jackpot Bets – It’s a form of multiple betting, a bit like the old pools if you remember them. There are loads of jackpots that you can play solo or in a syndicate. Again, they have found a way to add an extra dimension to your betting.
  • Bet Builder – This is available from event view for football matches and allows you to build your own combi bet for a match giving you instant odds as you add or remove a bet type.

Responsible Gambling

Mr Green Green GamingYou know when you meet someone who is talented, funny, well off, stylish, attractive, and then they end up being a really decent person as well? It’s kind of irritating isn’t it – surely they must have a fault somewhere? That’s Mr Green.

Not only do they score full marks in almost every category, but they are one of the best sites out there for taking their responsibility as a gambling provider seriously.

So much so that they have created their own responsible gambling tool, which they call Green Gaming. They create a risk profile on their customers using real data from their betting history as well as a self-assessment multiple-choice test.

It’s open for the customer to see and means that the bettor and the provider are working together to manage risk and alter behaviour when necessary. They have managed to make this an inclusive tool instead of something that interferes, and the fact that they have invested and developed this off their own backs says an awful lot about them. It’s no surprise they have won so many awards for being socially responsible. Bravo, Mr Green.

The Product

It would probably be a good idea to stop gushing and talk about the betting wouldn’t it.

Mr Green started life as a casino so that is what it is most well known for, but although the sportsbook came later it is so much more than just an add on. This is Mr Green, they don’t believe in doing things by halves.

We will go over both products below.

Sportsbook

Mr Green Sportsbook

You certainly won’t be left lacking from the list of sports on offer here, which currently stands at more than 35, and with Swedish origins there are many more unusual sports such as pesapallo, table tennis, and surfing.

Horse racing is fully available (this is missing from many casino-sportsbooks) and not just the basics odds either, there are regular price boosts on all televised races that make this one of the best value places to punt on big races. They also love their football at Mr Green so you can bet on fixtures from almost 60 countries including the likes of Kazakhstan – which comes you some idea of the range on offer.

Market depth is good in general, although you will find more pre-event markets at other sites. Still, there is more than enough for most people here and it includes Asian lines and things like that.

It’s also really useful that they have broken down bet types into manageable sections so you can quickly scan the page and expand the bet type you want (goals, for example) before making your bet.

Mr Green isn’t so much about flash in the pan temporary sports promotions but they do have solid retention offers for all major sporting events, along with daily enhanced accas, price boosts, and daily racing specials.

Casino

Mr Green Casino

Funnily enough Mr Green put their virtual sports section in the casino, and there are 11 of them in total which is more than I usually see elsewhere. These include several types of horse and greyhound racing, tennis, darts, motor racing, and even something called 7-1-21… whatever that is.

Looking at the more traditional casino products there are over 400 games to chew through and there is very little dead weight in there either. Regular slots payers will recognise titles from the likes of Playtech, Microgaming, NetEnt, Evolution Gaming, IGT, Nyx Interactive, Play’n GO, Quickspin, Yggdrasil – the list goes on.

There is a triple powered live casino (Evolution, Pragmatic, and Authentic Games) giving a ton of options, a varied range of exciting table games, instant win titles, keno, even bingo. Of course the Reel Thrill’s discussed earlier also fall into this category.

Browsing could be a bit of a pain since there are no filtering options aside from game type, but the exclusive list of games makes this less of a problem and you can search for specific games using the search bar too – oh, and there are a lot of promotions for the casino as well so be sure to check out the promotions page.

Mobile

Mr Green MobileMore people bet via mobile than ever before, and Mr Green are fully prepared for this with a fully optimised mobile website as well as an app that is easy and quick to install.

Either option works like a dream, and the mobile product presents itself in much the same way as the desktop site but with a few clever adjustments to create a more enriching experience on the smaller screen.

The screen is kept clear of clutter with menus floating in from either side when needed rather than taking up valuable space, so the interface is all about betting or gaming depending on which part of the site you are using.

This also makes navigation an easy process and the search bar located at the top is a great way to bypass navigation altogether if you know what you are looking for, and it can be used to find sports, teams, fixtures, or leagues.

You can also access help at any point via mobile so really you could run your account in its entirety from you device if you wanted to.

It’s a superior product.

About Mr Green

Mr Green LogoThe people behind this brand would like you to believe that Mr Green is an elusive entrepreneur with all the values of a true gentleman.  In reality Mr Green is not a real person but a marketing ploy, although the company as a whole do operate by the same gentlemanly ethos as their immaculately dressed mascot. They have a whole back story for the character and his mysterious past which is very endearing indeed and adds some extra fun to proceedings.

Set up in 2007 by three Swedish investors, the company were one of the first to offer a range of games from several software providers but using just one account wallet.  This innovation led to early recognition for the brand, something which has continued unabated with Mr Green winning over 20 top level industry awards for things like ‘gaming operator of the year’, ‘casino of the year’, ‘slots operator of the year’, ‘socially responsible operator of the year’, and many more.

Initially the founders of the company wanted to create a sophisticated online casino, based on one of Monte Carlo’s famous establishments.  Through excellent graphic design they have created an atmosphere that is entirely new in the online gaming and betting sphere, and one that isn’t often imitated – probably because they have set the bar so high.  There is no compromise with this brand, everything is created with the user in mind, from the revolutionary and vast games catalogues to their new and fully capable sports betting section.

Mr Green was actually acquired by William Hill in 2019, although it was left to operate as an independent brand. Since then, however, William Hill themselves were bought by Caesars in America, who then sold off all of their European assets (including Mr green) to 888.

What i’m saying is, 888 now own Mr Green, but it looks like the brand will be left to do what it has always done best.
